Description

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park memorializes the more than 85,000 men wounded and 15,000 dead in the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House. No place reflects more vividly the Civil War’s tragic cost than these hallowed grounds. These places reveal the trials of a community and nation tested by war. Fredericksburg National Cemetery, containing over 15,000 Civil War interments, is also located in the Military Park.

This collectible depicts the Kirkland Monument, which honors Richard Rowland Kirkland s selflessness. Completely disregarding his own safety, Kirkland placed himself directly in harm s way to provide fresh water and blankets to wounded Union and Confederate soldiers during the battle of Fredericksburg.
